A Gentle Reminder

There Is No Single Right Way to Learn

Autistic children can communicate, participate, regulate and learn in very different ways. Support works best when it respects the individual child rather than trying to make every child respond in the same way.

Look Beyond Behavior

A quiet child may still be confused, anxious, overloaded or unable to ask for help.

Use Different Ways to Explain

Pictures, demonstrations, stories, repetition and hands-on activities can complement spoken instructions.

Allow Processing Time

Some children need more time to understand a request, organize a response or become comfortable with a new activity.

Celebrate Small Steps

Progress may mean recognizing what comes next, trying one new step or simply feeling safer with a familiar routine.

Why These Resources Exist

Created from Lived Experience

Degan Doodles was created by Sarah, an autistic author who spent many years trying to understand why everyday experiences, social expectations and school situations could feel so difficult.

Her goal is to create resources that respect different ways of learning and give families, teachers and therapists practical tools they can use alongside children with empathy and patience.
